Hello everyone,

My name is Pedro Ortiz, a 4th year at CSU Monterey Bay. I am currently studying to earn a Bachelor’s in Business with a concentration in International Business and Management.

I was previously working with the golf department at Pebble Beach Golf Links. After working within the golf industry after five years, I decided to look for something different that would help me learn more about business management. After asking around within the company, I was offered an opportunity to intern at one of the resorts. As a hospitality business intern, I have the opportunity to learn about resort operations first hand, interact with guests from across the globe, and enhance my soft skills.

This opportunity is important for me because I will have the opportunity to learn about all of the “behind-the-scenes” work that occurs. Besides the work done, I am also given the opportunity to help with other departments that take part of the operations like front desk, concierge, banquets, and more. Besides the technical work, working in this environment will help me practice my soft skills, which is critical in the business world. In order to make relationships and have business success, it is important to know how to interact with people from all backgrounds. I am grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to learning as much as possible.
